From Writing Foundations to Competition-Ready Submissions: Building Creativity and Confidence
Our Middle School Writing Program begins with a 10-week group course (20 hours total), where students explore a variety of writing styles while learning to develop original topics and express their own perspectives. Each session focuses on an independent theme, allowing students to join the program at any point without difficulty. After completing the group course, students transition to individual project-based sessions, where a dedicated instructor guides them in selecting a suitable writing competition based on their interests and strengths. During this phase, students build on the writing formats learned in class to draft their own work. Through multiple rounds of feedback and revision, they develop a polished final piece ready for submission. Writing competitions provide valuable extracurricular opportunities that can be used in future college applications—even at the middle school level. For many students from Asian educational backgrounds, these competitions also serve as a powerful and objective way to demonstrate English writing proficiency.
